Black Butte

During a drive along I-5 through California and Oregon, we experienced some very tumultuous weather: sunshine, blue sky, thunder-head clouds, flash lightning, rain, and some very heavy hail. This moment near Black Butte offered a wonderful setting of blue sky, a majestic volcanic peak, and some golden fall colors.

We enjoyed a wonderful 4th of July weekend. We had mostly overcast weather, but there was a moment of bright sunshine on these beautiful golden leaves.

Classic Yacht Rendezvous

We enjoyed a wonderful weekend in Seattle, participating in the Bell Harbor Classic Yacht Rendezvous. My image of a few of our neighbors shows the Lady Anne, Emily K, and Cinnamon Girl. It was a tight fit for our gathering of 60 classic wooden boats!

I will post more images on my website next week.

Hummingbird

We have 2 new hummingbird feeders outside our kitchen window, and they are attracting a number of beautiful birds throughout the day. This afternoon, working in the kitchen, I looked out the window to see a Ruby-Throated Hummingbird, Archilochus colubris, hovering by the feeder for a long drink. Its buff brown body with hints of green was in a perfect balance with its brilliant red throat. A truly enjoyable moment!

Grazing Elk

The image you see in the background is available as a print or a framed photo. When you visit my website, choose the Photo Gallery, Fauna, and Land. Browse through my wildlife images. You'll find the elk grazing on page 3.

Songbirds start my day

Early, very early Tuesday morning, there was a burst of song outside. A flock of small songbirds started their morning well before dawn - at 3:50 a.m.! They sang and continued to sing until the sky started to lighten, and they kept going until after 5:00 a.m.

I never caught a glimpse of the birds, so I can't tell you the species, but I felt it was a magical way to start the day, standing outside on the porch in the dark listening to these birds sing. It sounded like their natural morning ritual - with no stress or worries involved.

Nature has many beautiful moments, and I certainly enjoyed this one.
